Spring is finally here and with it new jewelry collections to complement your spring fashions!
Americana Indian Shows thanks you all for your support in 2013 — we look forward to seeing you in Highlands Ranch this month! Upon returning to Flagstaff after a wintry tour of the east coast, we visited with several artists who dropped by to see us with their new creations. Jack Tom came by with four of his shorter style necklaces, one of which he set with a lovely piece of Bisbee turquoise we provided him. He titled this gorgeous necklace “Turquoise Woman.”
Bruce Hodgins stopped by with his wonderful creations as well from which we purchased several pendants, two rings, and five beautiful link bracelets with exotic stones such as Montana agate, lapis, and carnelian. He promised to be back with some of his handmade silver chains, which will add to the nice selection of Italian chains we have built up for this show. Premier gold smith Brian Clark made two 14kt gold rings — one a heavy mans ring (over 1 oz) with gem-grade Bisbee turquoise and the other a stunning creation in 14kt gold, black Australian opal and diamonds. On our buying trips to Gallup and Zuni, we met with Vernon Haskie and were lucky enough to obtain two more of his incredible works of art, one of which is a wide multi-stone inlay bracelet and the other a drop-dead gorgeous belt buckle. For you purple lovers, we also have a stunning Vernon Haskie gel-sugilite-inlay bracelet. Another great find includes a must-see belt buckle by Santa Fe Indian Market award-winner Darrel Dean Begay as well as a bolo and bracelet by his brother Lee Begay. Our selection of Zuni inlay work is extensive and includes many nice bird inlay designs. Also included in the Zuni collection is a gorgeous needlepoint coral necklace by Brant Waatsa Jr., which took an honorable mention ribbon at the 2013 Gallup Ceremonial.
In our down time, we made some stone bead necklaces of Argentinean agate, tiger eye, Amazonite, carnelian, and green garnet, which are nicely accented with silver beads and finished with nice big sterling silver hook and eyes. Great worn alone or to give a unique accent to a favorite pendant!
At last year’s November and December show series we saw a healthy demand for the blue cluster style and multi stone style jewelry as well as for Larimar and light blue Dry Creek turquoise pieces. We hope to have a nice selection of these styles from which to choose.
From several collections we picked up a great 1950s–early 1960s Zuni needlepoint bracelet, an Andres Quandelacy fetish necklace, a three-piece set by Mary Marie Lincoln Yazzie featuring all Lone Mountain turquoise, a lovely ring by Lee Yazzie, earrings by Howard Nelson, a Dan Jackson bracelet, two rings by Kee Nez, a 1980s all-silver rainbow Yei squash blossom necklace by Francis Jones, a sterling silver bolo by Thomas Byrd with 14kt gold accents, and a rare Ray Tracey bracelet of hefty weight in sterling silver.
