Native American Artists: Jewelers
Carl and Irene Clark, Navajo Jewelry Artists
Carl Clark Sr. was born in Winslow, Arizona, to the Manygoats
Clan. Irene Clark was born in Bird Springs, Arizona, to the Edgewater
Clan. The Clarks are contemporary Native American jewelry artists
who combine their personal sense of beauty with outstanding skill
and craftsmanship to design intricate, stunning jewelry. They create
masterpieces in gold and silver, featuring micro-fine intarsia-inlay
using turquoise, coral, sugilite, opal, shells, jet, and other gems
and stones. One bracelet often will require five to six thousand
stones.
The Clarks show, sell, and compete nationally and internationally,
and have won numerous awards. They are represented in Germany and
featured in several books by Lois and Jerry Jacka. Their work has
been carried by many galleries: American Shadows (Lincoln. City,
Oregon), American Vest Boutique (Armonk, New York), Buffalo Bill
Museum (Cody, Wyoming), Old Town Traders (Flagstaff, Arizona), Gallery
10 (Scottsdale, Arizona), The Heard Museum (Phoenix, Arizona), Legacy
